I caught this holiday shopping scene tonight when fetching my wife from the Pier Park outdoor mall. I love Christmas lights on palm trees!

After two weeks of rain we drove around all day with the Miata top down. It was in the 50′s all day, but we were toasty with the heater on.

Shot as a JPEG file. Canon 5D, 24mm 1.4L, ISO 500, f/14, exposure 1.00 second, white balance: tungsten. Handheld. Post: subtle saturation boost.

We’re building a two-story villa at Laguna Beach about two miles from Carillon Beach—and just minutes from beautiful Rosemary, Seaside, and Grayton. I look forward to swimming in the beautiful lap pool and running/biking on the beach at least every other day.

I took time off from business as a wedding photographer to attend the Destin Seafood Festival held this year at the Destin Harbor.

The drive from the west end of Panama City Beach was really quick with the relatively new four-lane blacktop and October traffic. It was only 20 minutes to Grayton Beach and another 20 to Destin.

Parking was an easy road-side drill, allowing a short walk to the festival. There was the usual arts and crafts and seafood; but for me, the major draw was Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. Joan played one very long set with songs ranging from the great Runaways tunes to her contemporary works, which are really good (you can listen to a few on her website).

I love to eat! And hearty Italian is one of my favorite. I had one of my best meals at Lupa in NYC, which is one of Mario Batali’s Italian restaurants.

I made some Lasagne the other day from a recipe in a Mario Batali cookbook. I even made the pasta dough myself, which was a first! I had fun doing it.

I captured this image on horseback as we were crossing a stream in the Andrew Molera State Park near Big Sur, California. The ride took us through mountain passes, across beautiful meadows, on the edge of steep ravines, and down along a magnificent secluded beach.

We recently returned from Quebec City, which is celebrating its 400th anniversary this year. For seven days we strolled the streets of the old city, discovering its many wonders and meeting its polite, hard-working, and hospitable citizens. Quebecers have a unique history and culture dating back to the city’s founding by Samuel de Champlain in 1608. Much of the original French-style buildings still exist in the old city, and the French language and culture still prevail. The city is a delight for any Francophile. As an experiment, I left my pro gear at home and took along only a compact point and shoot (Canon G9) that I operated on manual.

Festival of the Horse

We got out for a little recreation last weekend to see an international equestrian triathlon.

I saw my first polo match. The riding was very impressive, as there are a lot of quick transitions. And the riders control the horse with only one hand, since the other holds the mallet.

A polo field is 300 yards long, so the horses can really get moving.
